Volunteer Spotlight: John Cook

This month, we are featuring volunteer John Cook from KLA.

What do you do professionally?

I am an electrical engineer (but I mostly write software these days).

How did you hear about SiE and what made you decide to give your time to our cause?

KLA became affiliated with SiE about six years ago and I joined immediately since I am interested in helping the education system.

Do you have a favorite activity or memory from a lesson?

I like experiments with magnetism because invisible action at a distance looks something like magic.

You volunteer with others from KLA. Are there any benefits to volunteering with coworkers?

Many of the other KLA SiE volunteers are from other parts of the (large) KLA organization, people I would not otherwise have met.

Do you have any advice for new SiE volunteers?

Enjoy this opportunity to teach new things to young people. Working with kids this age is often chaotic but it’s great to see them take anything away from the experiments we do.
