Navigating the Thrills and Chills of Science Education

Welcome to an exhilarating expedition through the realm of elementary science education. As we traverse the landscape of what is sometimes scary about science education, while also shining a light on the brighter side – the incredible impact that Science is Elementary has had on this journey. So grab your lab coats, put on your safety goggles, and let’s dive in!

The Fear of Falling Behind: In the dark alleys of science education, one fear that looms large is the notion of students falling behind. But at Science is Elementary, we've illuminated a different path. A staggering 90% of teachers say that our program ignites students' interest in science, helping ensure they are ahead of the curve.

The Mystery of Boring Science: Sometimes, the shadowy figure of boring science can cast its spell on young minds. The culprit is a lack of stimulation in the curriculum! At SiE, we have transformed science into a thrilling adventure. Our mission is to make science engaging through hands-on learning. Thanks to our dedicated team and generous donors, science education does not have to be a snooze-fest.

Budget Cuts Haunting Science Labs: Terrifying budget cuts often haunt science programs, but with your support, Science is Elementary can turn the tables. We're equipped to resist the ghostly specter of underfunding and provide schools with the resources they need to make science education a thrilling reality. Especially with our “Science is for Me!” program. Created by scientists and science educators, and aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), Science is for Me! can be used in the classroom, or in after-school programs.

The Monster of Inequality: The monster of inequality often divides the landscape of science education. However, Science is Elementary bridges this gap. We are dedicated to ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to be part of the SiE adventure. Additionally, our impact extends beyond equality; SiE girls are 2 times more likely to aspire to work in STEM fields compared to their non-SiE peers. We are eradicating the gender gap in STEM education, and empowering young girls to dream big.

The Ghosts of Underfunded Schools: In underfunded schools, science resources can be scarce, but Science is Elementary rises to the challenge. Our experienced scientist and engineer educators, partnered with STEM professional volunteers, ensure that every student's voice is heard and experiences are honored. These dedicated teams visit each classroom consistently, building strong mentoring relationships and deepening students' fascination with science, despite budget constraints. With your support, we empower them to overcome the specter of underfunding and provide every child the chance to explore the wonders of science.

Phobias About Science: Phobias about science being too complicated or exclusive can be frightening. At SiE, we believe science is for everyone, and the proof is in the numbers: 100% of SiE students say science is fun. We have transformed science into a thrilling rollercoaster ride of discovery.

The Fear of Irrelevant Education: Education that does not connect with the world around you can be a spine-chiller. But SiE students do not just learn science; they live it. Our students learn how to apply scientific methods in their everyday problem-solving. We have witnessed an 86% increase in SiE students' content retention every year and a 70% increase in their ability to articulate and use deep science concepts over consecutive sessions. A remarkable 65% of SiE students apply scientific principles learned in non-science classes, debunking the myth that science is siloed from the rest of the curriculum.

While science education in elementary schools may have its hair-raising moments, there is no need to be frightened. Thanks to your support, Science is Elementary is here to make science an exhilarating, accessible adventure for all. Our statistics prove that we are on the right track, creating a future filled with young scientists and innovators.

Thank you for being an integral part of this incredible journey. Together, we will navigate the thrills and chills of science education, with the emphasis firmly on the thrills!
