Yearlong Program

Mind-bloeing science” created and taught by scientists.

Complement your existing science curriculum with our inquiry-based, experiential program that integrates science and engineering with literacy.

Our experienced educators are scientists and engineers who love teaching in elementary schools. They team up with three to four volunteers per class to ensure that all students’ voices are heard and all experiences are honored, in small group interactions. Our volunteers are STEM professionals who share their passion and enthusiasm for science while working with students.

Each classroom is visited by the same team of dedicated educators and volunteers throughout the year to develop strong mentoring relationships and deepen students’ fascination with science.

I hope they teach me science like this in middle school

We believe that Science is for Everyone and work hard to ensure that all students achieve highly, regardless of demographics. Check out our results here.

Our Yearlong Program…

  • Is for elementary school (TK-5th)

  • Is grade-level specific

  • Is monthly throughout the school year (Typically September through May)

  • Takes place in your classroom, during the school day

  • Includes all lesson plans and materials

  • Is standards aligned (NGSS: Next Generation Science Standards)

Our educators and volunteers are passionate and enthusiastic about science and that enthusiasm is infectious! Regular in-class sessions, year after year, ensure continuity of learning and the development of strong mentor relationships.

Students LOVE the hands-on experiments, and the thinking and writing skills built into each lesson help build curiosity and connect to other areas of learning. Thank you for providing such a wonderful program to our school!

Don’t live or work within driving distance of our Mountain View, CA headquarters?

Our Virtual Learning Program demonstrates to students that we can do science wherever we are and with whatever we have available to us.

This program’s combination of live video meetings and hands-on activities allows for robust discussions as well as engaging hands-on experimentation using common, readily available materials.

Each of the eight units has about 3 hours of activities meant to be spread out over 5 days. Units are arranged around themes.

Each unit begins with activities that introduce a phenomenon designed to stimulate curiosity and elicit questions. These are created by Science is Elementary and led by classroom teachers.

Next, our educators will zoom into your classroom for a 30-60 minute (grade-level dependent) video lesson. This live lesson includes hands-on science experiments or engineering activities, robust discussions, and demonstrations.

Before and after the live lesson, students engage with the content, with classmates, and with teachers, by posting their own comments and questions on a virtual message board.
